KARACHI – A case against senior journalist Shahzeb Jillani was on Saturday quashed by a Karachi court after the Federal Investigation Agency could not produce substantial evidence.
The judge declared that the First Information Report (FIR) not maintainable and categorized the case as Class C.
The charges against Jillani related to cyber terrorism and defamation after his appearance on the ‘Aaj Kamran Khan Show’ on March 18 when he spoke about the enforced disappearances allegedly carried out by the military.
He was also charged over a tweet he published highlighting the allegations of political engineering by a Pakistan Army general.
Jillani was granted an interim pre-arrest bail at the start of May. He is an investigative reporter who has worked for the BBC and Deutsche Welle and works for Dunya News.
