Chairman Senate administers oath to National Press Club office-bearers

Raza Rabbani administered the oath to the new office-bearers of the National Press Club in Islamabad. He emphasized the critical role of journalists in democracy and the need for their safety.

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani Wednesday administered oath to the newly-elected office-bearers of National Press Club.

At the oath-taking held at the club premises, Rabbani appreciated the role played by journalists in helping restore democracy in the country. He said media persons were being killed for reporting the truth. "It is lamentable, if journalists are insecure due to any pillar or institution of the state."

Rabbani promised to raise voice against unfair treatment being meted out to journalists. “It is the responsibility of media organizations' owners to disburse salaries to their staff on time so that they could meet their expenses,” he said.

President NPC Shakeel Anjum and Secretary General Imran Yaqoob Dhilon pledged to do their best for the community.

Outgoing President Shaheryar Khan handed over charge of NPC administration to the new president. President of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Afzal Butt also spoke on the occasion and said the new office-bearers were competent enough to serve the community.
