Chairman PEMRA Absar Alam drawing Rs1.5m monthly salary, Senate told

ISLAMABAD - Absar Alam is drawing a monthly remuneration of Rs1.5 million as chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) but is not entitled to pension benefits after retirement, Senate was informed Tuesday.
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb told the house during the question hour that chairman PEMRA is entitled to benefits admissible to MP-1 public office holders.
The minister was responding to a question by Senator Kulsoom Perveen who wanted to know about educational qualifications of Absar along with pay, allowances and other fringe benefits he is getting.
The minister said that Absar after graduation with majors in Mass Communications and Education obtained an advanced diploma in the English Language from NUML. She added he completed Part-1 of M.A English Literature from the University of the Punjab, along with a short course on financial writing from LUMS and course on conflict zone and war reporting from The East-West Center, University of Hawaii. Absar also went for a year of studies as Nieman Fellow — 2005 at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA.
Replying to another question, she said the government has no plans to privatize PTV Home and PTV Sports.
