Bokhari likely to return to The News

ISLAMABAD: Veteran journalist Salim Bokhari is being tipped to become the Resident Editor of The News in Islamabad, for what would be his fourth stint at the newspaper.

Currently the editor of The Nation, Bokhari is reported to have had initial meetings with the management at the Jang Group.

He could not immediately be contacted but the staff at The News has inkling he would most probably be their next boss, replacing Muhammad Malick who has joined the Dunya Group.

Although Aamir Mateen, another senior journalist, is also said to be one of the contenders, his appointment is unlikely, insiders say.

The well-respected Bokhari has seen and done it all in a career spanning more than four decades – from reporting to editing and from newspaper production to hosting a television talk show.

Bokhari, who also appears regularly on television as an analyst, was previously associated with The Sun and The Muslim (both defunct), The News and The National.

He received the President’s Pride of Performance Award in 2005 and the Best English Reporting Award of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society in 1984-85.

Bokhari, a widely travelled journalist, took over at The Nation in November 2010.
