ISLAMABAD: Ayesha Haroon former editor of The News and The Nation died in a New York hospital following a long battle with cancer, her colleagues said.
Terming it a great loss, they said her body will be flown to Pakistan in a few days for burial in Lahore.
Journalist Umar Cheema said she was an outstanding journalist and he owed his current position in journalism to her.
Tarik Zia remembered her as a caring editor who had an amazing memory. “During a Waqt TV workshop in 2006 she was able to remember names of all 75 participants.”
Kamila Hayat, a former editor of The News Lahore said Ayesha was her schoolmate and termed her passing away a big tragedy.
Ayesha studied at the Kinnaird College, Lahore and the City University, London. She also worked as a Features Editor for The Frontier Post and Reuters and free-lanced for the BBC Urdu Service and monthly Newsline.
