Anti-Terrorism Court grants bail to Matiullah Jan
Matiullah Jan was granted bail by the Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad. The decision follows the Islamabad High Court's suspension of his physical remand.

ISLAMABAD—The Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) granted bail to journalist Matiullah Jan on Saturday upon submission of a surety bond worth PKR 10,000.

The hearing for the drugs and terrorism charges against Matiullah Jan was presided over by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra. At the start of the session, the judge directed the investigating officer to ensure Matiullah Jan’s immediate presence in the court.

This development comes after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended Matiullah’s two-day physical remand a day earlier. The IHC ruled that he should now be treated as being under judicial remand.

The case, registered at the Margalla Police Station in Islamabad, invokes provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act. The journalist faces allegations of possessing 246 grams of crystal meth and attempting to harm police officers.
