Geo, Talat apologize for guest's controversial comments
Geo News issued an apology for airtime given to Ahmad Ludhyanvi's controversial comments on the Shia community. The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has also intervened.
ISLAMABAD: Editorial board of Geo News and anchor Talat Hussain Thursday apologized to viewers and general public for comments of Ahmad Ludhyanvi, patron-in-chief of Ahlesunnat Wal Jamaat.
Ludhyanvi made some controversial and apparently objectionable remarks about the Shia community in Talat Hussain’s program ‘Naya Pakistan’ on Feb 22.
Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen and civil society members criticized the anchor and management of Geo for giving airtime to the leader of a proscribed organization.
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has also issued a show cause notice to Geo TV management following the objectionable remarks.
In its apology, the Geo management said that it wants to promote religious harmony and tolerance in the country; therefore it apologizes for the controversial remarks of the guest.
