Journalist Ahmed Noorani has called for a probe into the wealth of former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa. His request was submitted to various government officials, highlighting concerns over transparency.

ISLAMABAD—Journalist Ahmed Noorani, outside Pakistan, has asked the Government of Pakistan to "launch an inquiry into the unexplained wealth and assets" of former army chief Gen (Retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

His lawyer Abdul Hadi made the representation to the federal government public through a tweet on Monday. "Today, on behalf of our client, journalist Ahmad Noorani, we have sent a representation to the Federal Government to demand an inquiry into the unexplained wealth & assets of former COAS General Bajwa & his family members."

The request for an inquiry has been sent to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, DG FIA, Minister for Finance and Revenue Ishaq Dar, Minister for Human Rights Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, and Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah.

"Our client has sent a request today, i.e. 3 July 2023, to the Federal Investigation Agency and the Interior Ministry to allow him to join the investigation via video link and/or questionnaire.... Accordingly, the primary request in the instant representation is to request initiation of inquiry against former Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa."

Noorani has been declared a proclaimed offender for accessing the tax records of Bajwa and his family.
