RSF demands Pakistani government stop censoring Hamid Mir
Reporters Without Borders has called for an end to the censorship of TV anchor Hamid Mir by the Pakistani government. Mir, a prominent journalist, has faced multiple instances of censorship throughout his career.

PARIS—Reporters without Borders (RSF) has demanded Pakistan to stop censoring TV anchor and journalist Hamid Mir.

The international media body urged "the government to end its silence about media censorship and tell Geo News he can resume hosting his show."

According to the RSF, Pakistani citizens were deprived of one of their most popular commentators on 28 May 2021, when the management of Geo News decided to suspend Mir, who had been hosting Capital Talk, a political talk show for nearly 19 years.

"This is not the first time that Mir has been subjected to censorship," it noted, adding that "He has been fired twice, first as a young reporter in 1994 and then in 1997 as the Daily Pakistan's editor for publishing articles linking leading politicians to corruption."

Mir has received many international awards for his journalism and is a jury member that chooses RSF's three Press Freedom Prize winners every year.
