KARACHI—Journalist Noor-ul-Arfeen Siddiqi was violently attacked by at least two dozen masked assailants at his home in Malir on Sunday. The assault left Siddiqi with serious injuries, as shown in a video clip posted on X, where he is seen bleeding profusely from his head and face.
According to reports, the attackers called Siddiqi out of his home before launching their brutal assault. Shaken but defiant, Siddiqi revealed that the attackers had broken his leg and stated he was on his way to the hospital for treatment. Despite his condition, he warned the perpetrators that he would return to settle the score.
Siddiqi condemned the attack as a "gift" from the Sindh Police and the provincial government. He has urged the Inspector General of Police, the chief minister of Sindh, the governor, the mayor, and the sector commander of Karachi to take immediate notice of this attempt on his life. "My phone is on, the governor and the sector commander both have my number and can contact me," he said.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern over the safety of journalists, highlighting the ongoing threats faced by those in the media industry. Siddiqi’s call for justice underscores the urgent need for action to protect press freedom and hold those responsible for such attacks accountable.
