Maleeha Lodhi has called for the immediate release of Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman, who has been detained for over 50 days without a trial. She emphasizes that justice must prevail and the law should be followed.

ISLAMABAD—Maleeha Lodhi, a former editor of The News, on Sunday expressed concern over the continuing detention of Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman, Editor-in-Chief of Jang-Geo without a trial and called for his immediate release.

In a tweet on World Press Freedom Day, she said Shakil had been in detention without a trial for over 50 days, and no formal charge brought against him. "Justice demands his immediate release."

She said the law must be followed, and he should be allowed to contest the case on its legal merits.

The National by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Mir Shakil in a 34-year-old property transaction.

Ms. Lodhi had also served as Pakistan's ambassador to the United Nations.
