LAHORE: Roznama Dunya has sparked controversy by abruptly terminating 36 employees in Lahore, including reporters and desk staff. According to reports, the affected employees arrived at work only to be denied entry, leading to frustration and dismay among them.
"This was very rude of them," commented one of the sacked reporters, reflecting the shock felt by the terminated staff.
Roznama Dunya, a publication under the Dunya Group, which also operates Dunya Television, was launched in September last year, aiming to establish a strong presence in the media landscape.
This recent wave of layoffs follows a similar move by Dunya Television last week when 12 employees were let go from their Lahore office. The reasons cited were reportedly to create space for new hires who were recruited on more lucrative packages. Among those dismissed were assistant producers, translators, and other support staff.
The abrupt firings have raised concerns about job security within the Dunya Group and have sparked discussions about the treatment of employees in Pakistan's media industry.
