Hamid Mir says he is still getting threats

ISLAMABAD: Hamid Mir, who is in London for treatment, has told BBC World Service Radio that he was still receiving threats not to restart his program.

“There are some people who are sending me messages, sending me emails that if you restart your program, there may be third attempt, another attempt on your life…I have to live with these threats,” Mir said in a brief interview.

When asked if he was scared that two bullets were still lodged in his body, the Geo TV anchor admitted: “I am a human being and I am scared.” However, he said he would stick to his words as he cannot betray the journalists back home who lost lives in the line of duty.

Terming Hamid Mir as one of Pakistan's most well-known journalists, the BBC said the anchor is not happy with his employer Geo for apologizing for broadcasting the claims that ISI was behind the attack on him.   

Mir reiterated that the reason for attack was his work on the cases of missing persons and the treason case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

“The ISI and the officials of ISPR contacted me directly and asked me not to do programs on missing persons…they said I should not highlight the violations of human rights in Balochistan. They said don’t touch treason trial against Pervez Musharraf.”

He added that the provincial Sindh and the federal governments are responsible for nabbing the people who attacked him.
