KARACHI—A senior journalist associated with DawnNews, Khawar Husain, was discovered dead in his car on Hyderabad Road in Sanghar on Saturday night under unexplained circumstances, Dawn reported on Sunday.
According to Sanghar SSP Abid Ali Baloch, police were alerted to the presence of a body inside a parked vehicle. “The body was found in the driving seat, with a gunshot wound in the head,” he told Dawn. A pistol was also recovered from the journalist’s hand.
Police shifted the body to a hospital and have launched an investigation into the case. SSP Baloch said Husain’s family hails from Sanghar, though his parents and close relatives currently reside in the United States. The reason for his visit from Karachi was still being established.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the provincial police chief. He also directed that the investigation be handed over to a senior and competent officer.
Meanwhile, the Director News and Current Affairs of DawnNews said the organization would wait for the outcome of police investigations before issuing further comments.
