RSF detains Sudanese journalist Al-Rasheed Jarad in South Darfur

WESTERN DARFUR—Darfur24.com has reported that Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) arrested journalist Al-Rasheed Mohammed Haroun Jarad and transferred him to Daqris prison in South Darfur, where he has been held since August.

According to Jarad’s relatives, RSF members stopped him at the end of July in the Ardeiba market in central El Geneina before moving him to a detention center. His family has not been allowed to visit him since his arrest.

A source in the RSF Civil Administration in South Darfur confirmed that Jarad was transferred to Daqris prison, southwest of Nyala, in August.

Jarad had been working in the information office of Civil Administration leader Al-Tijani Karshoum from late 2023 until mid-August 2024. He previously served as director of the Darfur Radio Bureau 90.3 and worked as a correspondent for several satellite channels in El Geneina, West Darfur.
