WASHINGTON: The name of Pakistani journalist Syed SaleemShahzad, murdered last year, is to be included on the Journalists Memorial at the Newseum in Washington. The ceremony which is to take place on May 14 will also honor 71 other journalists who lost their lives because of their work. Shahzad’s body was found in a canal 150 kilometres from Islamabad, two days after he went missing from the capital. The 40-year-old Shahzad was a correspondent for Adnkroknos International and Southeast Asia bureau chief for the Asia Times Online. Suspicion over Shahzad's murder has fallen on the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), which has denied involvement in his death. Days before Shahzad's disappearance he did a story published on Asia Times Online alleging links between Al-Qaeda and officials in the Pakistani navy.
