ISLAMABAD – A hurriedly called meeting at the National Press Club Wednesday discussed ways to fight back in the wake of massive job cuts by media organizations.
Senior journalist Farooq Faisal Khan chaired the meeting.
One of the suggestions put forward was that the chief justice and the prime minister be asked to order reinstatement of all laid off and transferred media workers to the status of July 26, 2018.
The journalist community believes that in the run-up to the July 25 elections, the media houses made tons of money through advertising.
They wonder that how could the organizations begin terminating employees soon afterward on the pretext of financial crunch.
Another suggestion was to call for an audit of news organizations from July 2017 to July 2018 to ascertain what revenue the media houses earned.
Another meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 4:00 pm.
