Ahfaz-ur-Rahman courageous journalism awards for Asma Shirazi, Amar Jalil
The Ahfaz-ur-Rahman Awards honored Asma Shirazi and Amar Jalil for their significant contributions to journalism. The awards recognized their dedication to freedom of the press in Pakistan.

KARACHI —The Karachi Arts Council, in collaboration with Ahfaz-ur-Rahman Award Committee, has bestowed the Ahfaz-ur-Rahman Award for Courage of Expression on journalist Asma Shirazi (pictured) and Freedom of Journalism Lifetime Achievement Award 2022 on author Amar Jalil.

According to The News, the awards were given in memory of the late Ahfaz-ur-Rahman, who rendered immeasurable services for the cause of freedom of the press in the country, especially during the era of military dictator Ziaul Haq.

While addressing the event via video link, Shirazi said that the award had become a great source of strength for her. "Ahfaz-ur-Rahman's guidance is always with us," she remarked.

Ahmad Shah received her award from veteran journalist Ghazi Salahuddin. Meanwhile, Jalil's award was presented by another veteran journalist Hussain Naqi. Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon received it.

The ceremony, which author Naazir Mahmood moderated, started with journalist Imran Sherwani's documentary on Ahfaz. Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jamili, the late journalist's wife Mahnaz Rahman, veteran journalist Nasir Zaidi and others expressed their views.
