ISLAMABAD – Pakistani journalist Maham Javaid has been shortlisted as one of the finalists for the 2017 Young Journalist Award.
The Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award asks for “stories that spark public debate and help to foster change.”
Maham reported on the psychological consequences of terrorist attacks in Pakistan after Lahore was rocked by a bomb early this year.
The Thomson Foundation website said: “The agonizing details of the terrorist attack, the visions of lethal violence, left many Pakistanis caught up in the attack with an indelible change in behavior, tinged by extreme fear and anxiety.”
The winner of the award will be announced in London this November.
The competition this year received 236 entries from 60 qualifying countries.
Maham is an assistant editor with The News on Sunday in Lahore for the last one-and-a-half years. The stories evaluated for this shortlisting were filed for The News on Sunday.
