Shakil Shaikh seeks apology, Rs10m in damages from DawnNews journalist
Shakil Shaikh, President of the Regional Cricket Association in Islamabad, has served a legal notice to journalist Raja Mohsin Ijaz. The notice demands an apology and Rs10 million in damages for allegedly defaming Shaikh in a tweet.

ISLAMABAD – Shakil Shaikh (pictured), President of Regional Cricket Association, Islamabad has served a legal notice on Raja Mohsin Ijaz, a DawnNews TV journalist and manager media of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF).

The defamation notice seeks Rs10 million in damages and an unqualified apology from Ijaz within 14 days for allegedly defaming Shaikh through a tweet.

The notice states that “you tweeted from your tweeter account namely @rajamohsinijaz wherein you leveled malicious allegations against our Client by way of innuendo.

“Group photo of a delegation of Islamabad’s cricket club/management/stakeholders which had called on Minister of State for Interior was also posted along with your tweet. The picture of our Client who was also seen to be standing along with the Minister was circled in red Print out of the screenshot of your tweet.”

The notice states that Ijaz’s tweet had gravely injured Shaikh’s reputation.

Shaikh is also a senior journalist and worked at The News as chief reporter for many years.

Barrister Masroor Shah has served the notice on Shaikh’s behalf.
