ISLAMABAD – Journalist Zeeshan Ashraf Butt, 29, of Nawa-i-Waqt newspaper was on a phone call when shot dead allegedly by Imran Cheema, Chairperson of the Begowala Union Council (Sialkot) on March 27.
According to the audio, Zeeshan can be heard talking to the female chairperson of the district council on the phone. He tells her that he visited Begowala Union Council to seek details of the tax imposed on shops.
Zeeshan then informs her that the union council chairperson abused him and threatened to kill him.
A while later at least three gunshots can be heard, and the journalist is silenced forever.
