WASHINGTON D.C. — The Global Investigative Journalism Network has announced the opening of submissions for the 2026 Sigma Awards, highlighting excellence in data journalism worldwide. Journalists are encouraged to submit their most compelling data projects published in 2025.

Sigma Awards invite global data journalism projects

Founded in 2019, the Sigma Awards aim to showcase innovative and impactful data-driven reporting. GIJN became the official host earlier this year, continuing the tradition of recognizing outstanding work in the field. Submissions are now open until January 11, 2026.

The awards welcome entries from journalists across all regions, whether working individually, in small newsrooms, or as part of larger teams. There is no category distinction, allowing a diverse range of data journalism projects to compete for recognition.

Criteria and submission details for 2026 entries

Eligible submissions must have been published between January 1 and December 31, 2025, and submitted through the official online form. Applicants can enter multiple projects and must indicate whether they represent a large or small newsroom or are submitting as an individual. All entries become part of the Sigma Awards database, providing a resource for journalists to explore global data journalism trends, learn from previous projects, and draw inspiration from innovative reporting techniques.
