Funding available for innovative data-driven journalism projects

The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting is providing grants for innovative data-driven journalism projects that spotlight underreported issues. This opportunity is open to all newsrooms and independent journalists in the United States and around the world.

Freelance data journalists, staff journalists, or groups of newsrooms collaborating on a data project are encouraged to submit proposals.

The grants aim to support journalists in their efforts to uncover significant stories that might otherwise go unreported, using data to reveal patterns, trends, and insights that contribute to public understanding.

Past grant recipients have successfully brought to light critical issues such as environmental degradation, human rights abuses, and public health crises, making a significant impact through their reporting. The Pulitzer Center encourages innovative approaches and collaborations that can push the boundaries of traditional journalism.

Applicants are advised to provide detailed proposals outlining their project’s objectives, methodology, anticipated impact, and a budget plan. Successful applicants will receive not only financial support but also editorial guidance and assistance in project development.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
