SHEIKHUPURA - Bilal Sheikh, a reporter with DawnNewsTV in Sheikhupura, was reportedly tortured and illegally detained allegedly by a local general councilor.
Dawn.com reported that Sheikh was covering a sewerage project on Ghang Road where substandard material was being used.
As the crew began recording, Councilor Rai Mohammad Khan arrived along with his men, started beating and abusing them.
The website said that while the cameraman escaped the scene, the councilor snatched Sheikh's mobile phone and took him to his office in his vehicle. There he was beaten with a cane.
The reporter was, however, freed after an hour after local journalists informed the police.
Police have registered an FIR but have yet to make arrests.
