The Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) has announced the opening of submissions for the 2025 SEJ Awards for Reporting on the Environment, inviting entries that showcase outstanding environmental journalism published between May 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025.
Now aligned with SEJ’s annual conference in April, the revised awards timeline ensures that winners will be recognized and celebrated in person during the event. Journalists can submit their work across ten categories.
First-place winners in each category will receive $500, a trophy, a digital winner’s banner, and discounted registration for the SEJ annual conference. Second-place winners will be awarded $250 and recognized online.
In addition, all first-place winners will automatically be considered for SEJ’s top honor—the Nina Mason Pulliam Award for Outstanding Environmental Reporting. This prestigious award is granted to the single most exceptional piece of environmental journalism among all SEJ Award winners. The recipient will receive a $10,000 cash prize, a commemorative trophy, and up to $2,500 to support travel, lodging, and registration for the SEJ conference.
The Nina Mason Pulliam Award is supported by the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust.
The regular entry deadline is September 2, 2025, with a late deadline of September 16, 2025 (late fees apply).
For full details and submission guidelines, visit SEJ's official website.
