He was also associated with The Nation where he worked as a deputy editor (editorial). He wrote essays for The Pakistan Times, and later became its editor. He was also a renowned playwright. He has left behind a widow and two sons. He was the brother-in-law of editor-in-chief The Nation, Majid Nizami and former federal minister Sartaj Aziz. Asghar was buried at the Miani Sahib Graveyard in Lahore. A large number of people attended his funeral.
