ISLAMABAD: Veteran Pakistan Television anchor and newscaster Shaista Zaid has retired after more than 43 years on the job.
According to PTV, Shaista ended her long stint at the channel when she read the English news bulletin on Friday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJRWEJL8NTg
Shaista joined PTV in 1969 and won the hearts and respect millions of viewers with her perfect diction, fluency and dignified demeanor.
Over the years, besides regularly reading the English news bulletin, she was handed the responsibility of making some historic announcements for PTV, including reports and updates on the 1971 war, the push for democracy in 1988 and the military coup against the Nawaz Sharif government by Gen. Pervez Musharraf in 1999.
While announcing her retirement, Shaista said time spent at PTV constituted some of the most important moments of her life.
Managing Director PTV, Yousaf Beg Mirza, addressing the staff, said Shaista was an institution and had always made PTV proud.
Shaista thanked PTV for enriching her life and enabling her to touch the hearts and minds of million of viewers.
