ISLAMABAD – Just days after the arrival of a new editor, The Express Tribune has reportedly fired around 30 employees of their city desks at four centers.
A JournalismPakistan.com source says among those sacked are city editors, sub-editors, and page makers working in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar. In Islamabad alone, at least nine employees have been fired including the city editor and a features writer.
The employees were communicated by a top official Monday that their services were no longer required. They have, however, been assured they will be paid three-month salaries.
The wholesale sackings come after Fahd Hussain took over as editor, replacing Kamal Siddiqi at the start of the month.
Insiders in the know tell JournalismPakistan.com that the Express Media Group now intends to focus more on electronic and digital media.
