ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Tuesday suspended the licenses of three television channels run by Geo Network with immediate effect.
A PEMRA committee took the decision to take Geo News, Geo Entertainment and Geo Tez off air while also deciding to seal the channel's offices. However, reports said a final decision on revoking the licenses will be announced on May 28 after a meeting, also to be attended by government officials.
Until that meeting takes place, the suspension will remain in effect, officials said.
The PEMRA committee that included Israr Abbasi, Syed Ismail Shah and Pervez Rathore was assigned the task of looking into the Defence Ministry's application against Geo TV.
The channel leveled allegations against the ISI and its chief as being responsible for the April 19 attack on its presenter Hamid Mir.
The committee members said they have forwarded their recommendations to the Council of Complaints which is expected to respond before the May 28 meeting.
