The News scribe named Daniel Pearl fellow
Khalid Khattak, a staff reporter at The News in Lahore, has been awarded the Daniel Pearl Fellowship for 2013. He will train at the Wall Street Journal's Washington DC Bureau.

LAHORE: Khalid (Ahmed Khan) Khattak, a staff reporter at The News, Lahore, has won the prestigious Alfred Friendly/Daniel Pearl Fellowship for the year 2013.

He will be placed at the Washington DC Bureau of Wall Street Journal for five months.

At the bureau he will get an opportunity to train as a general assignment reporter. Fellows generally report local news and write short features for their host publications and attend training seminars. The fellowship managers claim local news desk is pre-eminent in US journalism and is therefore the best place to learn about the American press system.

The fellowship is a challenging and rewarding experience. Since fellows are newcomers in their host newsrooms, they have to adjust to new conditions and work hard to gain the trust and confidence of fellow reporters and editors. This fellowship offers journalists the most intense and practical experience of any journalism fellowship in the US.

Prior to joining The News, Khalid worked with The Post and Daily Times.
