Shahid Khaqan Abbasi gives away APNS awards to journalists

At the 28th APNS awards ceremony, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi honored outstanding journalists and advertising agencies. The event recognized various categories, including investigative reports and featured articles.

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday gave away the awards to journalists and advertising agencies at the 28th edition of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) awards.

The following were the winning journalists:

• Best Column Award (English), Syed Saadat Ali, Dawn
• Best Column Award (Urdu), Yasir Pirzada, Jang
• Best Column Award (Provincial Language), Asad Chandio, Awami Awaz.
• Best Feature Award (English), Ms. Noorihuda, Newsline
• Best Feature Award (Urdu), Muhammad Akram Khan, Jang
• Best Feature Award (Provincial Language), Murli Dhar, Awami Awaz
• Best Cover Story (Periodicals), Imtiaz Gul, Ms. Noorilhuda, Newsline
• Best Cartoon, Khaliq Khan Paki, Jang
• Best Photograph, Muhammad Azeem, Daily Express.
• Best Illustration for Periodicals, Adnan Faisal, M/Brands Magazine.

The panel of judges consisted of prominent writers and intellectuals - Ms. Ameena Saiyid, Prof. Dr. Nisar Zuberi, Mr. Babar Ayaz, Dr. Rafia Taj, Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat, Dr. Mugheesuddin Sheikh, Mr. Owais Aslam Ali, Prof. Tauseef Ahmed Khan, Mr. Vali Ram Vallabh, Dr. Fahmida Hussain, Mr. Yaqoob Mughal, Ms. Seemeen Naghmana, Abid Ali Syed, and Prof. Shahida Kazi.

The awards were originally to be held in January 15 but had to be postponed after the prime minister refused to attend the event. It was because the APNS blundered by sidestepping Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, and also nominated for an award, an advertising agency being probed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
