Seven journalists selected for Chevening SAJP Fellowship

ISLAMABAD: Seven Pakistani journalists have been selected for the Chevening South Asia Journalism Program, three of them representing The News.
British High Commissioner Philip Barton hosted a ceremony Thursday in Islamabad to award the fellowships. The journalists for the 2016 program are: Tariq Mahmood (92 News Channel), Rasheed Khan Safi (Daily Mashriq Peshawar/Radio Buraq), Fakhar Durrani (The News), Naureen Shams (FM 107), Alefia Hussain (The News on Sunday), Nazish Zafar (Geo News), and Abdul Waseem Abbasi (The News).
According to www.gov.uk the 2016 SAJP Fellowship is a tailor-made journalism skills development course developed by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office for high caliber journalists.
The program will enable journalists to explore different ways in which the media can play a role in democratic processes. It also focuses on the ways in which the media are accountable, and the wider context within which political institutions operate.
The British High Commissioner also welcomed back 18 Pakistani scholars from the 2014/15 Chevening Scholarship program, who returned from the UK this year after completing their fully-funded one-year master-level studies.
