PFUJ to protest after television employee commits suicide for not being paid salary

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced holding countrywide protests on Monday (December 1) against Royal TV management after one of the channel's employees committed suicide over non-payment of salary.

A statement issued by PFUJ said Imran Ahmad Khan, a technical worker (non-linear editor), committed suicide after being refused his four months salary.  "We will hold a countrywide protest on Monday over the incident and file a case against his organization,"  the statement said.

It said the PFUJ protested against the same organization some months ago over the issue of non-payment of salaries to its workers.

 "There are few media organizations in the country that are not paying regular salaries to their workers despite earning millions. We have reminded the information ministry time and again to tackle the issue and register cases against such employers,” the statement said.

 PFUJ also urged Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and PEMRA to take action against Imran’s employer and ensure justice is done.
