ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has condemned an attack on Ambreen Fatima, the wife of prominent investigative journalist Ahmed Noorani, in Lahore on Thursday.
In a statement issued on Thursday, PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar (pictured) and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi said targeting a journalist's family member to vent anger against any investigative report is highly condemnable. Such cowardly acts cannot deter media persons from performing their duties which is to inform people about the country's situation in an objective way.
The entire journalist fraternity expresses solidarity with Ahmed Noorani and his family, the two leaders said, adding the government must form a judicial commission to probe the matter. The PFUJ leaders also demanded that the government protect Noorani's family, arresting those who attacked his wife.
