Mir Shakil's absence irks Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD – Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, the owner of Geo-Jang Group, did not appear before the Supreme Court again, angering the judges hearing a suo motu case relating to non-payment of salaries at the media house.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar on Wednesday resumed hearing in the case.

Reports said that Justice Nisar ordered that Rahman is brought to the court on Monday even on a stretcher if he was not well.

The court was told the day before that the media magnate had a back problem and hence could make it here from Dubai at short notice.

The counsel for Geo-Jang, making his point said that Rahman held no position in the group. To this, the chief justice said that everyone knew he is the owner of the group.

Rahman’s son, Mir Ibrahim, the CEO of Geo, was however present in court.

Workers at the country’s biggest media house remain unpaid since January.
