ISLAMABAD—Actor Rashid Mehmood has announced not to work for Pakistan Television any more after he received a cheque for Rs620 for reading a marsiya by classical poet Meer Anees.

In a tweet, he shared an image of the cheque and wondered what the criterion for payment was. "Hi. I Received this Cheque from PTV And i can't understand. Total amount 620/- Pride of Performance Fee. 500/- Payment of my Work. 120/- only. What are the criterias of paying a pride of performance winner in this country and who spend 50 years of life in PTV. #Ptv."

His reading of the Meer Anees poetry was recorded at PTV Lahore two years back.

In a video message, he said he has decided not to work for PTV any more, saying the payment was an insult to his five-decade work and association with the state-run broadcaster.
