Maryam Aurangzeb appointed State Minister for Information and Broadcasting
Maryam Aurangzeb has been appointed the State Minister for Information and Broadcasting by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. This follows a cabinet reshuffle after national security concerns were raised.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Monday appointed Maryam Aurangzeb as State Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

An official notification in this regard will be issued soon. On October 29, Sharif took back the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage from Pervaiz Rashid, weeks after the security establishment said a ‘false and fabricated’ newspaper report breached national security.

According to a statement from the PM's office, the premier had directed Rashid to step down to enable holding of an independent and detailed inquiry into the episode.

Dawn reported that Aurangzeb was elected on a reserved seat for women in the 2013 general elections. She is said to have worked closely with Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and was a part of Maryam's team overseeing the education sector. She is also the parliamentary secretary for interior. Her mother, Tahira Aurangzeb, is also an MNA.

Aurangzeb holds an MSc degree in environment and development from KingÂ's College London and a MasterÂ's degree in Economics from Pakistan.
