Journalists boycott KP Assembly session

PESHAWAR — Journalists on Wednesday boycotted the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly proceedings,  in protest over inaction against the employees of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) who beat up and abused media teams during BRT coverage recently.

Soon after recitation from the Holy Quran, the journalists walked out of the assembly hall.

Minister for Finance Taimoor Salim Jhagra and MPA Fazle Elahi rushed towards the protesting journalists to convince them to end their boycott. However, the journalists decided not to do so.

The protesters demanded action against BRT staff involved in the incident. The staffers had abused and beaten up two Samaa TV journalists and also misbehaved with HUM TV crew.

The media persons said that the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) had initiated inquiry into the incident, seeking report within three days but did nothing happened.

Provincial Minister for Information Shaukat Yousafzai taking notice of the matter, sought an inquiry report of the incident within three days on Wednesday. — APP
