Journalist Ishtiaq Rao robbed outside his flat in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD—Two armed robbers deprived senior journalist Ishtiaq Rao of Rs800,000 in cash and pay orders of Rs3000000 at gunpoint in Sector I-8/1 on Wednesday.

Rao, who works for the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), had arrived at the parking lot of his residential flat after withdrawing money from a nearby bank when the incident occurred.

The I-9 Police Station has registered the First Information Report (FIR).

Rao told JournalismPakistan.com that he went to the Standard Chartered Bank in I-8 Markaz to withdraw money. "When I reached the parking lot of my flat, two armed men on a motorbike intercepted him and fled after snatching the money."

He said that he had withdrawn the money to make some payments.
