Aaj TV gets PEMRA notice for illegally airing BBC, VOA programs

ISLAMABAD – For showing programs aired by foreign entities, PEMRA Monday issued a show-cause notice to Aaj Television.

A PEMRA release said the channel is required to explain its position for broadcasting BBC program Sairbeen and Voice of America’s View 360.

The regulator said airing foreign content was a violation of Section 20(i) of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 (Amendment Act 2007). According to this section, no licensee can sell, transfer or assign the rights without prior permission of the Authority.

The channel has until June 12 to respond to the show-cause notice.
