Asif Shehzad Qureshi, an ARY reporter, has been arrested for his alleged role in arms smuggling. The arrest follows a complaint by Pakistan Railways linking him to illicit activities.

ISLAMABAD: Police have arrested an ARY reporter Asif Shehzad Qureshi for his alleged involvement in arms smuggling from Karachi to Lahore.

He was arrested after Pakistan Railways lodged an FIR against him, ARY anchor Iqrar ul Hassan and his team for their involvement in smuggling.

Dawn reported Thursday that police arrested Asif Qureshi after he went to the Lahore Railway Station to collect two parcels containing weapons and items used in making explosive devices.

Quoting Pakistan Railways General Manager (Operations) Javed Anwar, Dawn said an anchorperson Syed Waseem Qaiser had booked the consignments on Tezgam and Fareed Express and they were addressed to reporter Asif Shehzad Qureshi.

On the other hand, Iqrar tweeted Wednesday that Railways Police have registered an FIR against him and Asif Qureshi for exposing corruption in Pakistan Railways. “We are ready to face,” he tweeted.
