ISLAMABAD – BOL News anchor Aamir Liaquat said Sunday the authorities in Myanmar detained him and colleague Waqar Zaka for more than six hours illegally.
In a tweet, he said that despite fulfilling all legal requirements, the treatment meted out to him and Zaka showed the Myanmar government has no regard for the law.
Liaquat thanked his colleagues at BOL and the international journalist community and Pakistani journalists for raising their voice against their detention. He said he would share relevant details soon.
Both Liaquat and Zaka went to Myanmar to cover the plight of Rohingya Muslims. They were detained on arrival at Yangon airport.
