Najam Sethi quits Samaa TV for Dunya TV move
Prominent analyst Najam Sethi has resigned from Samaa TV after two years and moved to Dunya TV, marking another notable shift in Pakistan’s broadcast media landscape.

ISLAMABAD — Prominent political analyst and senior journalist Najam Sethi has resigned from Samaa TV after a two-year stint and has now joined Dunya TV, marking a fresh chapter in his long media career.

Sethi confirmed the move on X, thanking Samaa TV owner Aleem Khan and journalist Nadeem Malik for hosting his show Sethi Se Sawal. His announcement signals yet another development in Pakistan’s fast-evolving broadcast landscape, where shifting editorial environments and corporate reshuffles often shape the role of prominent analysts.

Background of Media Career

Sethi’s resignation comes without an official explanation. However, such transitions are not uncommon in Pakistan’s competitive media market, where policy differences, editorial pressures, shifting ownership priorities, and changing newsroom dynamics frequently influence programming decisions. Senior analysts often move between networks as channels recalibrate their political positioning, adjust prime-time lineups, or respond to evolving regulatory, commercial, and outside pressures that shape the country’s broadcast environment.

A Veteran of Pakistani Media

Sethi has worked extensively across major television networks, including Geo, 24 News, and AAP. Beyond journalism, he has held key public roles, serving as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board in three separate tenures and once as a caretaker Federal Minister and Chief Minister of Punjab. He is also the founder and editor-in-chief of The Friday Times, one of Pakistan’s longest-running independent political weeklies. Over the decades, Sethi has established a reputation as a vocal commentator on civil-military relations, governance, and Pakistan's political power structures. His career has often placed him at the center of national debates, earning both criticism and recognition for his analytical approach. His work across print, television, and public office has made him one of the country’s most visible media figures.
