Knight-Wallace Fellowships 2026-27 open for journalists worldwide

Applications are now open for the prestigious Knight-Wallace Fellowships for the 2026-2027 academic year, offering journalists worldwide an opportunity to advance their craft and leadership skills at the University of Michigan.

The program invites applicants with at least five years of professional experience in journalism, including reporters, editors, visual storytellers, data experts, audio producers, engagement specialists, designers, developers, entrepreneurs, and newsroom change agents. Independent journalists are also eligible.

Applicants must be working primarily in journalism; full-time academics, PR professionals, lobbyists, and degree-seekers are not eligible. U.S. citizens should apply as U.S. applicants regardless of where they work, while non-U.S. citizens must apply as international candidates.

Selected Fellows will spend the academic year in Ann Arbor, attending seminars and events while making the fellowship their main professional focus. Those currently employed in newsrooms are encouraged to secure employer approval for a leave of absence.

International Fellow offers will be made by mid-February 2026, and U.S. Fellow offers by early May 2026. The fellowship year begins in late August 2026, with arrival expected by mid-August.

Application deadline for international applicants: December 1, 2025, and for U.S. applicants, February 1, 2026.
