The Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellowship is a five-month program for democracy advocates and scholars. It includes research and collaboration opportunities in Washington, D.C.

The Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program, named in honor of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan and the late Congressman Dante Fascell, is a prestigious, federally funded initiative that supports democracy activists, journalists, civil society leaders, and scholars worldwide. This five-month fellowship, offered by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) in Washington, D.C., allows participants to conduct independent research on democratic development in their home countries or regions. The fellowship, housed within NED’s International Forum for Democratic Studies, creates a collaborative, intellectually stimulating environment where participants can exchange ideas, refine strategies, and advance their work in democracy building.

The program offers two tracks: one for practitioners, aimed at refining techniques and strategies for promoting democracy, and another for scholars, focused on producing original research. During their residence, fellows research, write, and discuss with peers and experts, building connections with a global network of democracy advocates. Each fellow is expected to produce a written or audiovisual project based on their research, culminating in a formal presentation on their work or a related topic.

The program is open to mid-career professionals working in democracy or human rights and scholars with a doctorate and a strong publication record. Proficiency in English and availability to reside in Washington, D.C., during the fellowship period are required.
