ISLAMABAD-Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly condemned the brutal murder of crime reporter of Capital TV, Hasnain Shah, in front of Lahore Press Club and announced a countrywide protest.
In a joint statement, President PFUJ Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi demanded immediate arrest of the murderer. They said the Punjab government and police have miserably failed to protect the lives of the journalists and media workers. "It is callousness and inhuman; we demand immediate action instead of just assurances."
They said if police cannot provide safety and security to working journalists and media workers, it means a complete collapse of the system. "We cannot and will not tolerate this brutality against journalists."
PFUJ called upon the journalists' community to arrange protest rallies across the country by Tuesday.
