Enhancing trauma reporting: Dart Center Ochberg Fellowship 2025

Covering violence, conflict, and tragedy requires a deep understanding of trauma and its psychological impact. The Dart Center Ochberg Fellowship is a distinguished seminar program for senior and mid-career journalists seeking to enhance their expertise in trauma-informed reporting.

Since 1999, the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma—an initiative of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism—has brought together outstanding journalists from around the world. This program focuses on responsible, ethical, and credible coverage of sensitive topics such as crime, war, natural disasters, and social upheaval.

Fellows will participate in an intensive, weeklong seminar at Columbia University in New York City from July 29 to August 3, 2025. The program features:

  • Expert briefings on trauma, mental health, and journalism ethics
  •  Discussions with seasoned journalists on best practices and challenges in trauma reporting
  •  Engaging in peer-learning opportunities to refine storytelling skills

Who Can Apply?

  • Journalists with a minimum of five years of professional experience across print, broadcast, and digital media
  • Reporters, photographers, editors, and producers covering trauma-related issues
  • Freelancers and staff journalists from all over the world
  • Fellows will be selected from North America, Latin America, Europe, the Asia Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East

All fellowship seminars are conducted in English. Fluency in spoken English is required.
