Gunmen attack ARY News office in Islamabad, one injured

ISLAMABAD: Gunmen hurled grenades at the office of ARY News in Islamabad and fired several shots that left a staff member injured Wednesday.

CCTV footage showed the assailants arriving at the office's main gate tossing the grenade from outside and then fleeing on a motorbike. They were however prevented from entering the premises by the security guards. ARY News reported a Non-Linear Editor was wounded in the attack that took place around 6pm, peak work hour at the office.

The attackers left behind pamphlets that showed they represented the Afghanistan chapter of global terror outfit Daesh and the attack was for the channel's coverage of Pakistan Army's Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Politicians, among them PTI chairman Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi visited the office and condemned the attack. Information Minister Pervez Rasheed was also at the scene.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) condemned the attack and demanded security be provided to all news organizations.
