ISLAMABAD: Journalist Absar Alam has formally been appointed chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
The Establishment Division Wednesday issued a notification regarding his appointment. However, Alam will take charge next month. PEMRA has been without a regular chairman since late 2013 after the government removed Chaudhry Rasheed.
Pervaiz Rathore, a PEMRA member was then given acting charge and following his retirement in May this year, Kamaluddin Teepu, an executive member, headed the authority.
Alam works with Aaj Television and International Non-Governmental Organization - Open Society Foundation.
