Formation of Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority approved
The federal cabinet has approved the creation of the Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority. This new body will merge existing media regulatory bodies and oversee print, electronic, and social media.

ISLAMABAD – The federal cabinet on Thursday approved the formation of the Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PMRA).

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), and the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) will now merge with the new body.

PMRA will regulate print, electronic, and social media, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry (pictured) said on Thursday.

The minister said the government would consult journalist bodies and the opposition while framing PMRA rules.
